Not long ago, a friend and I sat in our favourite overly expensive but delicious restaurant in Haarlem chit chatting about the impact of Trumps presidency and eventually led us to the topic of personalities and how these series of photos of me in this outfit (above and below) portrays the different versions of myself. I know I have different versions of myself. I am aware that this could also make me sound a little crazy or something, but I believe that everyone has different personalities and versions of themselves for every social occasion.
For example, extremely shy people who may act timid in big social scenes but are the joker and conversation stirrer in smaller groups.
There are always people who claim that they are themselves at all times, I say it is bull cr*p. I state this because I believe that you are your true self when you are by yourself. When on your own, you are not influenced by those around you and so you aren’t fixated on how your behaviour could affect others. For example, some people (like me) like to sing out of tune when they are alone, I do not dare do that in a public place, I do not want to hurt people’s ears! Society has not created many occasions where it is socially acceptable to be your true self. Luckily there are places like home and friends where you don’t have to pretend and be so self-critical about your personality.
But back to the topic, there is nothing wrong with adjusting your personality to the social situation and not being a 100% you all time because sometimes it’s fun to have different versions of yourself party you, home you, dating you, sporty you, but most importantly don’t forget to stay true to YOU.
